Kragle Iros

Character Story: King of Kezia

By: Rick Merriman as Grumby

Kragle Iros was the King of Kezia on the continent of Cathall during the early and mid-portions of the 2600s. He is known as one of the most evil and brutal kings of Kezia, partly because he joined the Races of the Dark and led them in The Sap Wars in 2646. The remainder of his reputation is due to his enjoyment and pleasure in torturing his enemies and innocent victims alike.

It was unusual for Kragle to lead the Races of the Dark, as he was born a Human – one of the Races of the Light. This came to pass as his father was actually Barak, the Father of Darkness who possessed Argan, the then-king of Kezia, for “thirteen terrible days and thirteen torturous nights,” until he impregnated Ilianna, Kragle’s Mother. Barak then left Argan’s body and returned to the underworld, when he knew his seed was finally implanted.

Kragle was the first born in a pair of twin boys. He quickly adopted the ways of evil and the dark, while his brother, Hogdin, followed Siberlee and the ways of the light. Kragle, even though first born and heir to the throne, always fostered an irrational fear that his brother Hogdin would take his place and become king. The hatred between them began young and fostered with each season of life.

Just before Kragle’s 15th birthday, Barak, The Father of Darkness, began visiting Kragle and gifted him with the Blade of Volition. From this point, Kragle always referred to Barak as his father instead of the hollow shell of a man his father, Argan had become. Barak taught his son how he could carve a figure with the dagger, of anyone, and if the carving was decorated with the hair of the victim, he could gain complete control over that person. On Barak’s 16th birthday Kragle carved such a statue of his brother Hogdin, and sent Shyla the tiny Imp, imprisoned in the hilt of The Blade of Volition, to secure cuttings of his brother’s hair.

When all was collected, Kragle succeeded in, gaining control of Hogdin. Kragle directed his brother to kill their mother Ilianna and father, Argan. With this, Kragle became the king of Kezia, and Hogdin – once free of the imposed magical control – was forced to flee his home, as he was now branded a patricidal assassin.

Kragle quickly became a vicious and controlling ruler as he studied the Kayz Class of magic.  With the help of his father, he soon was considered a master of that magical art. He often used his powers to excess – which temporarily depleted him of his youth and vitality. When depleted he could only be replenished by sacrificing a virginal, innocent girl to his father, Barak.

It is thought the only one who survived this fate was a Tian woman by the name of Soolee. She became Kragle’s occasional concubine and favorite. Soolee is the only one besides Barak who ever had any measure of control over Kragle and is directly linked to his fate and the fate of Mernac during, and after, The Sap wars.
